The Curator
I have taken A LOT of photos over the years. In the early days, I captured moments on film, either for prints or transparencies, which eventually found their way into albums that were often disguised as old leather-bound books or housed in inexpensive plastic slide cases. These days, my photography has mostly transitioned to digital, with countless images archived away in the cloud or stored on bulging hard drives that are bursting at the seams. I also seem to have uploaded over 11,000 images to Instagram in the last decade alone, sharing my work with a wider audience. Here, however, I would like to take the opportunity to perhaps thin that collection down a bit, showcasing some of the images I am most proud of and providing a little history and context behind each shot.
P.S. Opposite, you will find the camera that I used to shoot my very first roll of 35mm film—my father’s Zenit - B. It was truly a monster of a camera, one that also doubled as a hammer when needed. Yet, it has such a distinctive sound to it, and the smell of the leather case brings back a flood of unforgettable memories.
